It’s Olympic games season and the media is awash with inspiring stories about our Olympic and Paralympic heroes.
Often these stories include a great deal of uphill struggle and sacrifice, before the athlete reaches the pinnacle of their career – competing for an Olympic medal.
And we love these stories. They are inspiring and make us want to better ourselves too.
I would like to turn the spotlight onto the everyday Olympians, people like you and I. Because when you think about it, we all have our hero’s journey, our struggle and sacrifice for an end goal. And just because our life events are not televised doesn’t make them any less important.
I think one of the things about athletes that make their stories so compelling is their focus. An athlete’s sport is the center of their world. And that dedication is so inspiring.
Perhaps some of us wish we had more time to focus on the thing we are passionate about. But of course we have everyday commitments and responsibilities keeping us busy.
But could you make just a little more room in your life for your passion, whatever that may be? If you did – how much joy might that bring you? And perhaps your passion is more inline with your everyday commitments than running the 500 meters. Maybe you are passionate about parenting, a hobby you have or even your career.
While we can’t all go to Rio, we could bring just a little bit of the Olympic spirit into our lives. And more so than just watching it on TV. We can be everyday Olympians in our own lives.
Give YourSelf Permission to carve out a little time for your passion.
